204 load details

Postby shotgun sam » Fri Oct 24, 2014 8:12 am

I was asked last night if I knew what is a good load for a 204 as I do not have that calibre I was wondering what sort of pet loads 204 users recommend.

Thanks

My .204 load is 25.4 grain of Reloader 10X with a 39 grain SBK on top. (This load is safe in my rifle!)

Awesomely accurate and zipping along at 3850 ftps. ;)

On the .204 forum Reloader 10x seems to be the favorite and keeps cropping up for performance, velocity etc etc.

Reloader 10x should get a 32 grain Vmax up over the 4000ftps mark if that what he is after?

Steve.

Steve,

We went out yesterday afternoon and tried a few different loads and bullet weights.
The best results He got were with 26.5 grains TR140 on a 39 grain Sierra Blizking all the rounds were within a 10p coin size at 100yards.

He is now going to fine tune that load by trying a 0.1 grain of powder either side.

That's not too bad mate, was it windy when you shot that group? Have you tried adjusting seating depth to tune load? What is your OAL?

Well done BTW ;)

No mate haven't bothered with seating depths etc, from memory I set the dies up to match the 32gn Rem Accutips I was using which also shot well in it. I only use this rifle for hunting out to around 300m on rabbits and it does fine the way it is hence why I haven't bothered mucking around with it much, I've also tried a few diff brands of projectiles and powders and its shoots all of them well.

I even loaded up some 26gn Barnes VG's pushed along with I think it was 29gn of 2206H or 8208 (can't remember which now) anyway I didn't even test that on paper, I just went out and shot a heap of bunnies out to 160m in the head so I guess they were shooting fine!
