Shotgun Licence Renewal

If you submit your renewal say 10 weeks before it is due instead of waiting for the 8 weeks before when the Police notify you and you do not get your new certificate before the old one runs out do you have to pass your guns to a RFD until you get your renewal. Some counties due to cuts are taken far longer to issue / renew than others and from what i have seen the 8 weeks notice you get might not be enough in some areas.
