How to store my pump action shotgun??

Postby thatguy » Wed Jul 16, 2014 9:44 pm

Hi guys, I'm just wondering whether it is bad to store my pump action with the pump forward all the way back? if I put the pump forward, should I pull the trigger before I put it in the safe?

Thanks guys.

I 'load' a snap-cap into mine, 'fire' it and put it in the cabinet. Never had a problem doing this but it is a Mossberg 500.

1) Check empty/safe

2) Clean

3) Check empty/safe

4) Check safe/empty

5) Slide in forward position

6) Point in safe direction

7) Pull trigger to take strain off the springs & action

8) Lock away

If your one who likes to "oil" your barrel!..Place your gun ,Barrel down in your safe!!
This will allow any excess oil to run out !!rather than into your action, gumming it up.or in the case of a o/u or s/s,wont let the oil soak into your action or wooden stock!!!

don't know about the majority on here but my guns don't get fired empty, ever
a snap cap/caps goes in the shotguns and the bolts from the rifles get de-cocked before being put in the ammo safe after having an oily wipe 8-)

A window rack in the back of the cab in a pick up truck also seems to work and it's a great attention getter.

I thought the single point shoulder sling under the black leather coat (a la Terminator) was par for the course ...

I seem to remember, way back in the mists of time, seeing a very grainy video** of some guy who loaded his Mossberg 500, attached what looked like a piece of bailing wire around the cocking handle then around the fore-end.. When he fired the bolt, of course, ran back pulling the wire and the slide.. Maybe he was too much of a cheapskate to buy a semi-auto..   ;)

** I think this was in the very early days of YouTube.. (and I do mean very early..)
