shotgun stock

Postby airbourne » Thu Aug 07, 2014 10:53 am

Hi everyone I am new to the site hello to you all
I hope some one can help me out or put me in the right direction, I am after a stock for a Franchi veloce harrier made in 2004 well my son is, his as broke clean off where it joins the receiver while out pigeon shooting. I have been quoted from £350 to £425 plus vat for a new one which is as much as the gun is worth.
If anybody could point me in the right direction as to where I could get a second hand one that would be great I live in staffordshire

Try Gunstar or Guntrader. If unsuccessful, pick out a couple of the larger retailers from there and give them a phone, they might have something tucked-away.

Is the stock not salvagable?

I don't know how badly damaged the stock is, but it may be worthwhile to take it to a gunsmith to see if they can repair it. I've seen more than one "write-off" brought back to life. ;)

Yeah, I've seen great repairs complete with otherwise trashed stocks too.

That's easily repairable. Take it to a good gunsmith or do a search on the web for fellow who specializes in stocks if you want it look like it never was broke. I've repaired similar breaks in stocks myself however I'm a "ham and egger" at it. Some of my repairs look great and others not so good. A break at the wrist such as that indicates the that the stock may have been poorly fitted to the action.

Yep, a decent gunsmith should make a good fix on that.

Try a claim on your House Contents Insurance.
Depending on the cover you might be able to claim as long as the damage didn't occur while using the gun.
Fell out the cabinet awkwardly, fell out the car when door opened etc.
A friend claimed for his old Bettinsolli and got new replacement.
No harm in trying.

Easy peasy - no need to worry about finding a new stock ...... that one will be as good as new with a bit of TLC. ;)

Try Boyds gun stocks, they are in the USA but there products are superb and with the strong pound at the moment prices are very good.

They make stocks for most makes of gun now and postage from the USA takes about 5 days, expect to pay under £80 plus postage.

I have 2 rifles stocked by them and they are really good

Right, find another gunsmith.

These fellows are in Scotland and I'd talk to them before I'd trash my stock.
