trigger adjustment

Hi all
I recently bought a HW Cooey model 84 .410 single barrel hammer gun for my son to use as an introduction to rough shooting but the trigger pull is really hard and he is struggling a bit.
He can use his middle finger but i wondered how much work would be involved in adjusting the trigger pull as I'd rather have him learn to shoot 'properly from the start.
I know there were lots made and hopefully someone will have had some experience of this.
