Do I need to wait for police to inspect gun safe?

Postby marclanders » Sat Apr 16, 2016 10:29 am

I live in Scotland.

During my police interview at my home, I had not yet installed a gun safe. I did discuss with the officer, which safe, where and how I would install it. She agreed that would be satisfactory.

I have now received my shotgun certificate, installed the gun safe, notified the police via email I have installed it and await their inspection.

My question is, do I have to wait for them to inspect the gun safe or can I just obtain a shotgun and store it in my house?

Thanks.

I'd imagine they'd need to inspect the safe in-situ, before storing guns in it. Just give the firearms office a call on Monday

They agreed with your proposal concerning a safe and have issued a cert, I'd say carry on and use it.

+1.

If they weren't happy, you would not have received your SGC. You've done the right thing to notify them that you have bought a fitted a cabinet, but there isn't actually a requirement in law to have a secure safe for shotguns. It's a recommendation at best.

And as they issued the shotgun cert I would go gun shopping, but you were right to inform them you have now fitted the safe so they can come and inspect if they like

I recently changed my gun safe as the last too just did not have enough room.

I notified the FLO he said he would pop in next time he was in the area, that was over 3 months ago.

If they have issued your cert just fill up the safe, when they get the notification they will arrange to check all is ok.
