recomend me a scope

Postby leadpig » Sun Sep 04, 2011 11:03 pm

ive decided i need a new scope for the quad, but there are so many choices these days its making my head hurt,i am buying blind as our rfd's don't stock much to try out ,the endurance i have is good but i could do with adjustable parallax.
needs to be/have
below £200
30mm tube
adjustable pa
capable of shooting/seeing target holes at 20/150 yards
nice clear glass

illuminated would be a bonus
i don't mind second hand if anyone knows of something nice

In that price range I would tend to go with Nikon scopes of I were to buy new. There's the Nikon Buckmaster that meets most of the criteria listed however it has a one inch tube as oppose to the 30 mm. I feel that Nikons are one of the better scopes in that price range and generally are well built. Opinions are subjective but that would be my choice given your constraints.

The faster I go, the older I get.

I'd be looking at a second hand Bushnell Elite 4200 and go with a 1" tube unless you need 30+ MOA of vertical adjustment. 30mm offers no other advantage.

other than looking for a second hand bargain I would go for the scope I have on my .22 WMR
http://www.opticswarehouse.co.uk/products.asp?cat=415

I have been using it a while now and am amazed at how well it performs. I have to say though that on paper targets unless I use reactive ones (orange peel type) I cant see .22 holes at 150 yards even with a spotting scope
Tika T3 Super Varmit .308
Winchester 94AE .357
Savage 93R BTV .22 WMR
Armi Sharps .54
2 x 1858 remmington .44
2 x Dragoon pistol .62
Blunderbuss 12ga(ish)
Brown bess
2 x Arquebus 20ga
Pole gun
Cannon
Armstrong 12Ga S/S
Hatsan MPA 12Ga semi

Head shot rabbits with my .22 rimmy at 100 yards is easy enough on a calm day

I tend to find 3-12 mag is more than sufficient in the field , but my secure range , i keep to within 50-150 yds cal depending & area of course.
some good nikon bargains & simmons too , for the smaller cal AGs do a good scope 3-9x40

in the field it is fine, but i challenge any one to spot .17 holes on a target at 150 yards with a 12x mag ;)
does not matter now as i have a scope, not the mag i wanted, but its clear and i have two people who will spot for me
