Greener GP date info please

Postby 1066 » Tue Feb 28, 2012 6:55 pm

I have just picket up an old Greener GP 12g in very good condition. Serial number 607**. I'm thinking this is from about the late 1960's but can anyone give me an accurate date please.

For the date, look at the proof marks. Birmingham proof so should have a date mark.

FYI To check if your gun is a real Greener or a Webley (who bought the rights and still had the Greener markings) have a look at the left side of the receiver.

Now identify the tumbler and safety catch pins, which are towards the bottom of the receiver behind the trigger guard.

Are the ends of these pins secured by keeper screws, with a slotted head and a slight semi-circular cut-out, or by circlips ?

Keeper screws = real Greener GP
Circlips = Webley made GP

Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave - Yes - Keeper screws and the little letters in the proof mark appear to read p and e with a dot at the top. Does that give us a clue?
