Postby Chelseablue » Wed May 20, 2009 11:41 pm

Out tonight saw something that looked like ferretts , sort of black and gold colours moved like a ferrett . could not get close enough to see properly . Came from a paddock with five or six horse and headed for wooded area . What is there habitat ?
is it common to see them ? if it is them i saw . sounds daft i know but never seen one before [ town boy born in the east end of london] .The only thing green where i was born was the lamposts .

Mink bred for their pelts came in a variety of colours from jet black to silver, once they had been released into the wild  ("by the totally brain dead unintelligent sector of the human race , commonly known as the animal rights people") :thdn: , they reverted back to their original colouring as seen in the pics above this post, the havoc these merciless little killers cause is unbelievable especially in our rivers and streams. This being another ridiculous situation broght about by the naivety of the "do gooders" of this world.

Generally mink do not stray too far from rivers/streams - thats why we are running out of water voles. Down my neck of the woods shoots that have rivers near their pens are always open to attack by mink who get into the pens walking under the electic wires and going through the pop holes. Can range in colour from silver, shades of brown to black.

Fenn traps set in the pop holes at night on the river side of the pen can be successful

Ferrets & Polecats are different, ferrets refered to as Polecats just have the same colour.
Mink like water, ferrets don't.
I've got Otters not far from me in a stream, lovely to watch them.
A local river has Mink, I've not seen them but found footprints.
In the general area's away from water they could be lost ferrets (loads of different colours) Stouts & Weasels are also possible ?
I'd go with a lost ferret theory.
If it goes bang or has a nipple I want to fondle it.
