Kill zone for Rabbits.

Might be of interest to those just starting out shooting rabbits or thinking about it.
A rabbits head in the fur looks big & the advice given is often take head shots.
There's a big difference between a head shot & a brain shot.
Non Graphic head shot advice.
If it goes bang or has a nipple I want to fondle it.

I cannot watch this thread as on my phone, but between the eye and ear is bob
on is't it?, I have had no issue with that placement.

what is he trying to say :hmm: ,if you hit a rabbit in the head anywhere behind the eye or the back of the head with a .22 below 35 yards its dead, the kinetic energy breaks its skull and kills it,unless its face on looking up you have a far better area than 20mm ;) ,not that you should need it as most pcp's should be pellet on pellet at that range anyway

Here, courtesy of 't net, is a picture of a frozen rabbit sliced through. Origins are unknown in spite of efforts to trace them, but thanks for it anyhow.

Just saying & showing what a head shot looks like without fur & ears.
Often quoted is the term headshot, so my version of this is, this is where the "brain" shot is located.

No prob's.
You are one of the good reply guys.
Just that sometimes advice is given that doesn't help.
You know the sort, kill zone please is a common question, head shot is a common reply & we both know It's a bit more complicated than just waveing the scope cross hairs around the head area in general.

Excellent video mate, very interseting,

i always say you have a max area between the rabbits eye and ear the size of a 1 pence pice to place the pellet in, ive never had a runner with a pellet placed there!

Leadpig is right, most pcp,s are capable of hole on hole groups (in the right hands) @ 30 yards, but its knowing your rifle and how it performs in different weather conditions, ie wind, rain etc.

A slight cross breeze that can be felt on the face is approx a 3 mph wind, that would push a sub 12 ftlb.rifle of course buy 1/4 - 1/2 inch depending on the type of pellet used.

So no matter how accurate you rifle is, its still down to the shooters capability, knowing your rifle and how it performs in different wearther conditions and most importantly, shot placement!

Also when people think they have that sorted, theres shooting up hill, down hills up in trees etc, but we wont go into that today!

Maybe scarecrow could do one of his cool videos and explain the wounders of shooting angles and how the bullet is affected,
Would be interesting :)

aye shooting up hill or down hill can be a pain in the ass,is there a chart or rule of thumb for this as i can never work out if you add on or take away to allow for the angle ;) :worried:

I do actually agree with neil,

Does not effect us for what we do with centre fires, i find it only effects air gunning when shootin up into trees and that! Centre fires pint and shoot!

I'll enter that thought into the grey matter, it'll get lost for a bit as I'm trying to find the best pellet for my rifle at the moment & to make matters worserer I'm about to change the scope.
